The Bachelor host Jesse Palmer has revealed that Zach Shallcross took goodbyes with his bachelorettes "very hard" and needed a lot of support during his journey to find love on Season 27.

"Zach was someone I learned pretty quickly that he needs support and he's someone who has amazing intentions. The last thing Zach ever wants to do is hurt anybody's feelings," Jesse told Becca Kufrin and Michelle Young on the January 4 episode of the "Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast.

Jesse said while The Bachelor producers have said that before -- "about a lot of people" -- Zach was different.

"Zach takes goodbyes very hard, [it was] very tough [for him]," Jesse shared.

"And there were some moments, I think, during the season where he had eliminated someone or sent someone home and got really emotional. And the weight of the moment really hit him."

Jesse said a lot of times in the past, a Rose Ceremony would be done and then everyone would simply shrug it off and move on with their evening.

"You really had to, sort of, wait around and be there for [Zach]," Jesse explained.

"Sometimes on-camera, but other times, it was just sticking around to be there and to talk to him off-camera. [I'd be] like, 'Hey man, are you doing okay? Let's talk about it. Let's talk about it.'"

Jesse said he thinks how much support a Bachelor or Bachelorette needs or requires while filming a season is "unique and individual" to that person.

"I didn't ask for a lot of guidance on my [season]," the fifth-season The Bachelor star noted.

"I think part of that was because the show was new and that role hadn't clearly been defined. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to [or] if I should."

In terms of being a support system to Clayton Echard on Season 26 last year and then to Zach, Jesse explained, "Clayton was a very different Bachelor than Zach, and so both need different things."

Jesse said he tries not to "interject" himself into an emotional moment or drama on the show in order to avoid making the situation about him and his own thoughts or opinions.

"I'm always going to be so happy to give my advice and my help, not saying it's going to be the right answer, but only if it's asked for -- or if I feel it's needed or warranted," Jesse said.

Jesse recalled, for instance, speaking to Rachel Recchia on a cruise ship when she was "really down" and feeling emotional in Bruges, Belgium on The Bachelorette's nineteenth season last year.

"I felt like she needed someone to talk to, and so with Zach, you know, I feel like you're always wearing different hats with each lead," Jesse explained.

Jesse explained that he always attempts to cater to a leading man or woman's needs and wants.

"The one thing I know is I never want to push myself on them, if they decide they don't need it or want it," Jesse said.

And while Zach apparently cared greatly for his group of women, Jesse said the bachelorettes were also "emotionally invested" in Zach and "hopeful of finding love" with him.

"Also, Zach is an extremely emotional Bachelor. He's a very emotional man, and he's expressive. Zach cries a lot! But it's because he has such a big heart," Jesse told Becca and Michelle.

"He genuinely cares about people's feelings and [how] his actions affect people. The hardest part of this whole thing for Zach... was goodbyes. When he says goodbye to people, it breaks him. It really, really does."

Jesse therefore pointed out how The Bachelor's 27th season -- which premieres Monday, January 23 at 8PM ET/PT on ABC -- is more about love than drama.

"I think back to myself as a former football player where it's never okay to show emotion and you can't ask for help and you need to figure everything out for yourself," Jesse shared.

"I internalized everything, emotionally, inside of myself for a very long time, and I had to grow a lot in that way. One of the things I think Zach understood going into this season was that he had to be intentional with his actions."

Jesse said Zach's actions allowed the women "to feel comfortable and safe" right off the bat on Night 1.

"They could cry if they wanted to cry -- and not be judged for it," Jesse explained.

"Zach showed his emotion early... I hope people, that when they see him, don't think he's less of a man because of it. This is just authentically who he is."

Jesse concluded of Zach, "He's not trying to be 'James Bond Bachelor.' He's just being Zach."

Due to Zach's sensitivity and emotional nature, Jesse expressed how he's a little worried about how Zach will handle social-media backlash and scrutiny from fans when the season airs on television.

ABC just announced the 30 bachelorettes who will be competing for Zach's heart on the upcoming The Bachelor season.

Zach recently told People that he's looking for a kind and compassionate woman who's always up for an adventure, such as traveling and trying unique foods.

Zach emotionally self-eliminated on The Bachelorette 19 following his overnight Fantasy Suite date with Rachel.

While Zach pictured the flight instructor as "the future Mrs. Shallcross" and gushed to the cameras about how he was madly in love with her, Zach found her to be "inauthentic" in the Fantasy Suite and totally unlike herself.

Once Zach confronted Rachel about his concerns, he decided to leave the show at the Final 3 Rose Ceremony. He could tell that he wasn't going to be Rachel's "person" and essentially beat her to the punch.

Zach ultimately apologized to Rachel on The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose for questioning her character, but Rachel insisted no apology was necessary and he had every right to feel that way.

Zach was officially announced as The Bachelor star for Season 27 in late September on After the Final Rose. On that special, he was introduced to five of his bachelorettes, including Brianna Thorbourne, who received "America's First Impression Rose" in front of a live audience.
