SyFy announced it has ordered Paranormal Witness and Face Off, two new reality series that the network began developing in March.

Paranormal Witness will mix firsthand testimony and realistic drama to recreate paranormal experiences that defy explanation, such as encounters with poltergeists and aliens.

The series, which SyFy began developing under the working title Paranormal Files, is being produced by Raw TV's Dimitri Doganis and Bart Layton -- the same production team behind National Geographic Channel's Locked Up Abroad.

Face Off is a reality competition series that will pit special-effects make-up artists against each other and culminate with "one winner and one grand prize that will launch a career," according to SyFy.

The contestants will use different skill sets -- including prosthetics, 3-D design, animatronics, sculpting, puppeteering, casting and molding -- to complete different challenges, which will the be critiqued by a yet-to-be-revealed panel of judges.

Face Off is being produced by Mission Control.

In addition to Paranormal Witness and Face Off, SyFy also ordered Marcel's Quantum Kitchen, a new reality series starring Top Chef second-season runner-up Marcel Vigneron.

"We couldn't be more excited to see these shows move forward," said SyFy executive Mark Stern.

"Whether it's pushing the scientific boundaries of cooking, immersing us in first-person accounts of paranormal encounters, or exploring the creative artists behind special effects make-up, each of these series underscores the increasing breadth of Syfy's diverse brand."
