Nate, a 47-year-old film producer from Clovis, CA, who currently resides in Hermosa Beach, CA, was voted out of Survivor 49 on Night 14 of the game in a 7-4 vote instead of Steven Ramm, a 35-year-old rocket scientist from Littleton, CO, who currently resides in Denver, CO.

"I got blindsided, which is probably how you want to go if you're going to go in this game of Survivor," Nate said in his final words.

"But I'm surprised that I got as many votes as I did, which means Sage and Jawan voted with old Hina. But that's the game! I'm incredibly proud of how I played. It was harder than I expected. I made it further than I expected, and I'm excited to be a part of this jury."

The Survivor broadcast began with three tribes anticipating the merge after two tribal swaps in the game.

The new Hina tribe, wearing yellow, was made up of Sophi Balerdi, a 27-year-old entrepreneur from Miami, FL; Savannah Louie, a 31-year-old former reporter from Walnut Creek, CA; Michelle "MC" Chukwujekwu, a 29-year-old fitness trainer from Sachse, TX, who currently resides in San Diego, CA, and Rizo Velovic, a 25-year-old in tech sales from Yonkers, NY.

The new Uli tribe, wearing red, featured Nate; Alex Moore, a 27-year-old political communications director from Evanston, IL, who currently resides in Washington, D.C; Kristina Mills, a 36-year-old MBA career coach from Houston, TX, who currently resides in Edmond, OK; and Sophie Segreti, a 31-year-old strategy associate from Darnestown, MD, who currently resides in New York City, NY.

The new Kele tribe, wearing blue, featured Steven; Jawan Pitts, a 28-year-old video editor from Salem, NJ, who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA; and Sage Ahrens-Nichols, a 30-year-old clinical social worker from Roxboro, NC, who currently resides in Olympia, WA.

On Night 12 at Kele's camp, Sage said she was able to solidify trust with Jawan and Steven to take out Shannon Fairweather. Steven said the trio no longer doubted whether they could trust each other.

"Uli is going to be shook to their core because they think it was Steven [voted out]!" Jawan boasted to the cameras, adding how his new allies were going to take out "the top dogs" on the Uli tribe.

"I'm nervous, but I came here to play!" he added.

On Day 13, each tribe received a letter, informing them they had made it to the merge. There were 11 castaways left at this point in the game, and Nate said he was relieved because he may not have survived another Tribal Council.

All of the castaways gathered at Kele's camp, and Jawan's trio put on their best acting faces to make it seem like Shannon had betrayed Jawan and so they had no choice but to take her out. They made it seem like Shannon had gotten paranoid and was spiraling and scrambling.

Nate was therefore optimistic he and Savannah could return to Jawan and Sage and form an old Uli alliance.

Savannah told Sage that she was fine with everything that happened and wanted to work with her, but Sage told the Survivor cameras she was going to take out Savannah as soon as possible.

A chest then arrived via boat, and the merged tribe learned that keys to the chest were scattered through the jungle. One key opened the chest, and inside was an advantage in the upcoming challenge.

Everyone raced to find that one lucky key, but the Survivor castaways could only find -- and try -- one key at a time.

Sage ended up opening the chest and earning herself an advantage in the challenge.

Later on, Rizo said he felt confident with Sage and Jawan.

"With five old Uli and Sophie -- who we kind of adopted at this point -- makes six, which is the majority," Rizo explained to the Survivor cameras.

The original Uli, which included Nate and Savannah, clearly thought they had Jawan and Sage with them, but Jawan boasted about how they were "about to get played" and the pair's goal was to take all of them out.

Sophi and Alex knew they had options, but Sophi didn't know that Alex was playing both sides.

The other Sophie then talked game with Sage, and Sage let her know that she and Jawan were willing to work with her.

At the challenge on Day 14, Jeff explained that they needed to earn the merge feast.

The cast was then divided into two groups of five. Each team had to work together to dig out a massive boulder and push it through a series of obstacles. They had to collect a machete along the way and then use it to chop a rope.

Once they pushed the boulder to a tall platform, they had to work together to climb to the top of the platform. Once there, two team members had to work together to solve a Survivor word puzzle.

The first team to finish would receive the merge meal, and then they could move onto a second challenge in which they'd compete for Individual Immunity.

Sage didn't have to compete to earn the merge meal, so she was going to get to eat no matter what. She'd also have a spot in the second challenge, being able to compete with a full belly.

The Survivor teams were Jawan, Alex, Kristina, Savannah and MC against Nate, Steven, Sophi, Rizo and Sophie.

Nate's team ended up winning the challenge by about one second, and Jeff applauded both teams on "a huge effort."

For the Immunity Challenge, Sage, Nate, Steven, Sophi, Rizo and Sophie were required to stand on a very  narrow beam while balancing a ball on a disc. At regular intervals, they'd move their feet farther down the beam and their hands must move farther down the pole.

If at any point a person fell off the beam or a ball dropped, he or she would be out of the challenge.

The last person left standing would win immunity and be safe at the next Tribal Council.

Rizo was out of the challenge first, and he was followed by Sage, Nate, Sophi, Steven and Sophie.

Sophie therefore won the first Individual Immunity Challenge of Survivor's 49th season.

After the challenge, half the tribe enjoyed a feast while MC -- who finally got her vote back -- frantically tried to find her idol from the Beware Advantage with Savannah following her around and watching her every move.

MC did, in fact, discover her idol, but she noted how she didn't trust Savannah.

Sage also bragged about how she was not easy to manipulate, despite what Nate, Savannah and Rizo thought of her.

"I am looking forward to getting a taste of revenge!" Sage told the Survivor cameras.

Sophie, wearing the necklace around her neck, said she'd love to see Rizo or Savannah go home next. She attempted to get Kristina onboard, but Kristina said it was "too much of a gamble" and Nate would be the easy vote.

Although Kristina thought Nate would be a better option, Sage desperately wanted Savannah gone.

Savannah then spilled the beans to everyone that MC had an idol, so the castaways worked to make her feel paranoid in order to flush it.

Jawan then told his former Uli tribe that he'd vote out Steven -- but he said he didn't mean it.

Jawan wanted to target Rizo, who seemed to really trust Jawan at that point.

Steven noted his new alliance was either going to take Nate, Savannah or Rizo out, and it resulted in a complicated game of telephone.

On Night 14 at Tribal Council, the merged Survivor tribe sat at Tribal Council altogether for the first time.

"Tonight will definitely shake up the game moving forward," Sage declared.

Rizo also announced that he planned on playing his idol no matter what.

After each Survivor castaway voted, MC played her hidden Immunity Idol for herself, and so any votes cast against her would not count.

Jeff proceeded to read the votes in the following order: Nate, Steven, Nate, Steven, Nate, Steven, Nate, Steven, Nate, and Nate.

Six votes were enough to send Nate packing, and Nate announced, "Good game, guys," on his way out.

The Survivor episode's closing credits showed that Steven, Alex, Kristina, Sophie, Sage, Jawan and MC voted for Nate.

Nate, Rizo, Sophi, and Savannah voted for Nate.
