"American Idol" host and "American Inventor" producer Simon Cowell is about to bring another reality competition to U.S. TV.

The NBC summer show, "America's Got Talent," will be a $1 million talent competition for performers of any age and any kind of skill, Cowell announced Monday, the New York Daily News reported.

"We felt the time was right to open up the boundaries and say to America, regardless of what your talent is, this is a show you can enter," Cowell told a news conference.

Cowell said he will not judge or appear on camera for the show, but he will oversee auditions scheduled to begin April 17 in New York.

Cowell said "America's Got Talent" distinguishes itself from all the other talent shows currently on TV because "you're going to get to see literally every type of act."
