Nominations for the British Independent Film Awards are in, and features like My Father's Shadow and Pillion are leading nominees.

My Father's Shadow, which represents the directorial debut for Akinola Davies, scored 12 opportunities for a win, while Harry Lighton's Pillion is up for 10 honors.

Both were nominated for the Best British Independent Film Award, alongside The Ballad of Wallis Island, I Swear and Urchin.

I Swear received nine nominations, while Urchin received six and The Ballad of Wallis Island earned five total.

Actors Robert Aramyao (I Swear), Frank Dillane (Urchin), David Jonsson (Wasteman), Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), Harry Melling (Pillion) and Cillian Murphy (Steve) could all be named the recipient of the Best Lead Performance award.

Scott Ellis Watson, Peter Mullan and Maxine Peake could win the Best Supporting Performance for their roles in I Swear, while Tom Blyth was nominated for Wasteman, Jay Lycurgo received a nod for Steve and Alexander Skarsgard was acknowledged for Pillion.

The award for Best Joint Lead Performance could go to Ebada Hassan and Saffiya Ingar for Brides, Tim Key and Tom Basden for The Ballad of Wallis Island and Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn for Dragonfly.

Davies and Lighton are also up for Best Director and Best Debut Director.
