Married at First Sight star Matthew Gwynne apparently isn't a big believer in the concept that successful marriages require work and compromise and has shared his views with his wife Amber Bowles.

Although Matt and Amber have had their share of issues on Married at First Sight's currently-airing ninth season on Lifetime, such as Matt disappearing for hours on end and not communicating his whereabouts to his wife, Matt wanted Amber to be unapologetically herself at all times.

During Married at First Sight: Unfiltered's August 21 broadcast, Matt was asked what he'd need Amber to change about herself in order to move forward in their marriage.

"I told her from the very beginning, especially when we started having issues, I was like, 'Don't try to change yourself for me,' like, 'Don't try to be somebody you're not,'" Matt shared.

"I think she needs to be as genuine and as true as she can possibly be, and be herself. And if it works out, it works out."

Married at First Sight: Unfiltered host Jamie Otis then appeared to attempt to help Matt realize successful marriages require compromise and a willingness to change.

"There's a compromise when you get married.  You are going to change and evolve, and if you don't then it's never going to work out," she pointed out.

"But it's nice to know that you're not expecting someone to change for you."

The Unfiltered host has had a successful marriage to Doug Hehner since the couple met on Married at First Sight's first season, which aired in 2014. They have since welcomed a daughter, Henley Grace, together.

Matt's comments occurred after his Married at First Sight co-stars Iris Caldwell and Jamie Thompson were asked to share which of their spouses' imperfections actually turned out to be perfect for them.

Iris suggested her husband Keith Manley's spontaneity pushed her out of her comfort zone, while Jamie loved his wife Elizabeth Bice's candor and confidence.

"Keith's imperfection of going out there and just doing it, like, with no thought and no care, just doing it. Because I'm so much of a regimented person, and I love that about him," Iris shared.

And then Jamie explained of Elizabeth, "I think the biggest one for me is she's just so open about herself, and I'm always, like, 'I've got to watch what I say and watch who I tell what,' and so it can come across the wrong way."

"But Elizabeth is just Elizabeth," he added, "and you either love her or you hate her."

Earlier in the Unfiltered broadcast, Matt also said he didn't care if he upset Amber or looked bad on television during the incidents in which he hasn't come home at night or revealed his whereabouts with Amber.

"Matt, you said just a few weeks ago you would never do this again. What happened?" Jamie asked Matt after she introduced a clip showing Amber crying to the cameras at nearly 2AM about how Matt didn't return home again.

"I needed space," Matt replied.

"Is marriage something that you're taking seriously?" the host followed up.

"Umm," Matt said before hesitating. "Marriage is something I'm not very happy in right now, and I'm not really feeling like I want to spend much time with Amber at this time."

The Unfiltered host then asked Matt what it was about Amber that he just couldn't stand or handle.

"I think it's just her personality at times. It just aggravates me," Matt replied.

After seeing the shocked reactions on the faces on the Unfiltered host and his Married at First Sight co-stars, Matt continued.

"I mean, if y'all keep pushing, I'm going to be real!" Matt said.

"I get annoyed and I get aggravated. [Amber] stresses me out. She vibrates at a very different frequency than I do. She worries all the time, and I'm, like, on edge all the time."

Matt continued, "That's not me. I need to be relaxed and in a good place. I could not take anymore. I was just like, 'I've got to get out of here! I've got to go!'"

Matt seemed frustrated at this point, and he was letting his true feelings be known.

"Whether it makes me look bad on TV or it upsets her, I don't care," Matt concluded.

"I'm going. Like, I'm out! I need to decompress and relax and get back to a good place so I can bring that person back to this marriage."

During a prior appearance on Unfiltered last month, Matt also revealed he had struggled with commitment in his prior relationships before he married Amber.

Married at First Sight's ninth season also stars Deonna McNeill and Gregory Okotie.
