Married at First Sight star Luke Cuccurullo is opening up about why he wanted to keep what happened in the bedroom with Kate Sisk behind closed doors.

During a Tuesday night appearance on Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, host Jamie Otis asked Luke why he wanted to be so secretive about the fact he had sex with Kate on their honeymoon and was continuing to sleep with her in their marriage.

"I don't know," Luke replied. "I think because we were both -- or I know I was -- uncomfortable with it."

"Were you ashamed?" Jamie followed up.

"Maybe with myself, yeah," Luke admitted. "I wasn't proud of myself at all."

Kate kept her sex life a secret based on the wishes of her husband, but she eventually cracked and FaceTimed with Dr. Pepper in search of some guidance and answers.

As shown on Season 8 of Married at First Sight, which is currently airing on Lifetime, Kate vented to Dr. Pepper about how Luke often shut down after sex and seemed quiet and unhappy.

Kate wasn't sure if Luke's strange behavior had something to do with her or their relationship in general.

Luke's Married at First Sight co-star Jasmine McGriff and show expert, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, also appeared on the Unfiltered episode to talk about the scandal.

Dr. Pepper told Luke he had done himself "a disservice" by trying to keep physical intimacy so private.

She also brought up the fact Luke had told Kate he felt "repulsed" and "dead inside" after sleeping with her for the first time during their honeymoon. (Initially, Kate lied and said Luke felt that way after their first post-wedding kiss).

"I presumed you would apologize for the things you said just because they had such a horrible effect on Kate and would on anybody," Dr. Pepper said.

"And of course, people who see that think, like, 'What kind of brute are you?'" Dr. Pepper acknowledged.

"Just kissing somebody and saying that," Luke noted. "Yeah I know."

Luke's response seemed to indicate he thought telling Kate he was "repulsed" and "dead inside" after a kiss would be harder to explain or justify than making those remarks after sleeping with her.

"Well either way," Dr. Pepper continued, "Who wouldn't be appalled by those words?"

Luke explained he knew having a sexual relationship was "really important to Kate," and so he wanted to "keep trying to make her happy in that department."

Dr. Pepper then asked Luke if he had any real desire to have sex with his wife or if it was all just a performance.

After a long pause, Luke said, "Initially, it wasn't desire, but someway through, there was. You just spend so much time with this person and you pick up funny little quirks about them and stuff that you find attractive."

"I wouldn't say immediately, but it was probably a month in when I got there," he added.

Dr. Pepper advised Luke to dive into deep conversation with Kate and search inside of himself to figure out why he was distancing himself from Kate and felt bad after sex rather than happy or more united.

"If sex isn't what either of you want it to be -- it's painful to you and it's not loving or reaffirming to her -- then maybe that's not what should be in your marriage right now," Dr. Pepper reasoned.

In addition to Kate and Luke, Married at First Sight's eighth season also stars Jasmine McGriff and Will Guess, Kristine Killingsworth and Keith Dewar, and AJ Vollmoeller and Stephanie Sersen.

The latest episode of the series featured the couples attempting to navigate their relationships and deepen their bonds with less than one week remaining until "Decision Day," when they must decide whether to stay married or get divorced.
