Married at First Sight's Iris Caldwell and Jamie Otis have laid into Matthew Gwynne for treating his wife Amber Bowles poorly in their marriage.

During Wednesday night's episode of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, which is hosted by former Season 1 MAFS participant Jamie, Matt watched back a clip of Amber crying to expert Dr. Viviana Coles about how she wanted her marriage to work out so badly because she desired a partner willing to commit to her forever.

"[I'm] a little bit surprised, like, wow it was hurting her that bad? I had no idea," Matt admitted on Unfiltered.

Iris then explained to Matt where she thought Amber's emotions were coming from given they all starred on Season 9 of Married at First Sight together and she had become friends with Amber.

"Amber definitely likes to downplay things and act so much stronger than she truly is when it comes to talking to you because she doesn't want to seem weak," Iris reasoned.

"Like, her true feelings when talking to me and some of the other girls, [she] literally broke down because she felt like she had to build herself up because in this marriage, she felt like she's the only one holding it up right now."

The conversation grew increasingly more serious and intense when Jamie asked Matt to put himself in Amber's shoes for a second.

"Imagine that you're really into someone, right? And they up and leave and don't text and don't call. All they say is, 'I just need my space.' Would you stay with that person?" Jamie asked, referencing how Matt chose not to return to his apartment with Amber for several nights and communicate his whereabouts.

"Ugh no, that's actually happened to me before and it sucks when you really like somebody and you don't feel like it's reciprocated," Matt replied.

Jamie then dug her heels in a little more and noted, "Then you know how bad it hurts -- and you're willing to do that to Amber, somebody who's your wife?!"

"Umm," Matt began.

"You know how selfish that sounds," Jamie pressed.

"Umm, yeah," Matt admitted.

Iris -- who wed Keith Manley on Season 9 -- then asked Matt what he thought he had sacrificed of himself for the benefit or success of his marriage.

"Time, energy, effort," Matt replied with confidence. "Pushing myself past my comfort zones, talking about things I don't want to talk about."

"And that to me is all what a marriage is," Iris said.

But Matt argued in his own defense, "I'm holding on. You know, I think we've invested so much up to this point."

"We've done things that made us both feel uncomfortable and we both talked about things and experienced things together that we are close," the former pro basketball player explained of his relationship with Amber.

"So I think that's worth trying to continue to move forward."

Earlier in the Unfiltered broadcast, Matt also said he didn't care if he upset Amber or looked bad on television for incidents in which he hasn't come home at night or shared his whereabouts with Amber.

"Matt, you said just a few weeks ago you would never do this again. What happened?" Jamie asked Matt after the show aired a clip showing Amber bawling to the cameras at nearly 2AM about how Matt didn't return home again.

"I needed space," Matt replied on Unfiltered.

"Is marriage something that you're taking seriously?" Jamie asked.

"Umm," Matt said before hesitating. "Marriage is something I'm not very happy in right now, and I'm not really feeling like I want to spend much time with Amber at this time."

Jaime then asked Matt what it was about Amber that he just couldn't stand or handle.

"I think it's just her personality at times. It just aggravates me," Matt replied.

After Iris and Jaime expressed shock to his comments, Matt continued.

"I mean, if y'all keep pushing, I'm going to be real!" Matt blurted out in attempt to defend himself.

"I get annoyed and I get aggravated. [Amber] stresses me out. She vibrates at a very different frequency than I do. She worries all the time, and I'm, like, on edge all the time."

Matt continued, "That's not me. I need to be relaxed and in a good place. I could not take anymore. I was just like, 'I've got to get out of here! I've got to go!'"

Matt appeared frustrated at this point, and he was letting his true feelings be known.

"Whether it makes me look bad on TV or it upsets her, I don't care," Matt admitted.

"I'm going. Like, I'm out! I need to decompress and relax and get back to a good place so I can bring that person back to this marriage."

Up to this point in the Married at First Sight season, which has less than two weeks to go until "Decision Day," Amber and Matt's relationship has been a roller coaster.

They had a strong physical bond at first, but an emotional connection has been lacking for both spouses.

Amber and Matt's relationship, however, seemed to take a turn for the better in the latest episode when Amber paid a visit to Matt's childhood home and the pair discussed their pasts.

Married at First Sight also stars Jamie Thompson and wife Elizabeth Bice as well as Deonna McNeill and Gregory Okotie.
