Maksim Chmerkovskiy has finally admitted he's dating Sports Illustrated supermodel Kate Upton.

"She's an amazing person," the Dancing with the Stars professional told Us Weekly on Thursday.

The couple reportedly started off as friends when they met through a mutual friend about six months ago. Dating rumors then began to swirl in June when their relationship had reportedly taken a turn towards "serious" following a romantic dinner date for Upton's 21st birthday in New York on June 10.

"We have an incredible time together, and, you know, I definitely didn't see that coming and I think neither did she. We enjoy each other's company very much and like I said, she's a great girl that I never thought anything romantic like this could have happened," Chmerkovskiy said.

Neither Chmerkovskiy or Upton owned up to their romance until now. The pair had even stepped out holding hands in public in September without directly confirming their relationship, which quickly prompted a source to tell People that Chmerkovskiy, 33, and Upton are definitely an item.

"Things are going great... I think I got lucky... she's an amazing girl," Chmerkovskiy told Extra. "Everyone is happy, we are enjoying each other's company."

The dancing pro also acknowledged recent reports Upton just got an apartment near him.

"I live in New Jersey, she got an apartment in Manhattan," Chmerkovskiy confirmed.

Brother Val Chmerkovskiy also told Us his thoughts on Upton while at a launch for his new line, Valentin Clothing, in Beverly Hills on Thursday with Maksim.

"I think she's awesome," Val noted. "She's a great girl, and we're great friends. She's an incredible chick and we have a great time."

Chmerkovskiy allegedly split from ex-girlfriend and fellow Dancing with the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd prior to Valentine's Day in February after dating for 10 months.

"He wasn't feeling her anymore," a source told Us at the time.

"[Peta] didn't want it to end," another source added.

Chmerkovskiy, who starred in the Ukrainian version of The Bachelor in 2011, was also previously engaged to Dancing with the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff, but the couple called it quits in September 2009.

Chmerkovskiy left Dancing with the Stars following its fifteenth season, which aired last fall. He competed on thirteen seasons without ever winning a title.
