Lisa Rinna says she decided to undergo surgery because people were focusing more on her famous smile than her abilities.

Rinna -- who was a cast member of TV's "Melrose Place" in the 1990s and who now stars in the reality series "Harry Loves Lisa," alongside her husband Harry Hamlin -- had silicone injected in her upper lip in 1986, creating a look that has long attracted criticism.

Rinna told People.com she had her lip surgically reduced in August because she was tired of people talking about it.

"My lips started to define who I am," Rinna said. "That bothered me. ... I took a big hit for being honest (about the initial procedure.) It gave everyone online permission to lambaste me. It hurt my feelings."

Although it will take six months to recover completely from the second procedure, Rinna told People.com her lips are no longer "bumpy and uneven."

"My lip has no lumps! It's smooth," she said.
