Lamar Odom is in a dire situation due to his substance abuse issues and his family is reportedly trying to save him.

The 36-year-old former NBA star's family staged an intervention in New York City late last week as it's become increasingly more clear he's still battling life-threatening demons, Us Weekly reported.

"Lamar was doing really bad and his family was going to stage an intervention on Friday," an insider told the magazine.

Family members who attended the gathering reportedly included his ex-wife Liza Morales, aunt JaNean Mercer, his children and several of his cousins.

Odom was "extremely surprised" by the intervention, according to Extra, and "left the location."

"It's really sad," a source previously told Us. "He was doing so well in his [rehab] programs."

In recent weeks, Odom has been spotted at numerous strip clubs around New York City. He was also kicked off a Delta Airlines flight en route to New York City due to an alleged drunken display in which he vomited a couple of times and stumbled his way on and off the plane prior to takeoff.

"I don't know what happened. It was a big surprise to me," Kris Jenner told Australia's Kylie and Jackie O on July 15 after the incident. "All I can say is I just want the very best for him because he's like my son."

Odom, who recently filed his response to estranged wife Khloe Kardashian's second divorce filing, experienced a near-fatal drug overdose in a Nevada brothel in October 2015. Kardashian was by his side throughout the long and brutal recovery process.

Odom, however, was first caught drinking again in public on Easter weekend -- which disappointed Kardashian -- and then a month later in April, he was photographed gulping cocktails by himself in the middle of the afternoon at Beverly Center mall. Since then, he's appeared to go downhill.
