Josh Murray has issued an apology after outraging fans of his ex-fiancee, former The Bachelorette star Andi Dorfman, for posting a controversial Instagram picture.

Right before Colton Underwood's season of The Bachelor premiered on Monday night at 8PM ET/PT on ABC, Josh posted a throwback photo in which he was down on one knee proposing to Andi during The Bachelorette's tenth-season finale, which aired in 2014.

But Josh, 34, superimposed a devil emoji over Andi's face and captioned the post, "Haterz will say it's photoshopped... hoping the new bachelor comes away with an Angel. #seasonpremier #thebachelor #humor #isthisnotfunny #ok #sorrymom #watchingfootball2night #bye #doesanyonehaveasenseofhumorin2019."

After receiving backlash, Josh deleted the post and addressed the scandal in a video posted in his Instagram Stories on Monday night.

"I got hit up with a bunch of messages, I haven't been looking at my social media but apparently my post made some waves -- in a bad way," Josh said.

"I thought it was just funny. I thought it was humorous but apparently it wasn't very humorous. I guess I'm not very funny. I was trying to be funny in a half-hearted way but everybody takes it so seriously and that's my fault. I should know better. Tsk tsk."

Josh continued, "Anyways, so I'm probably going to have to take that down, I'm getting in trouble for it. A lot of people, at least my friends, they're like, 'No, leave it up,' but I mean, if it's hurting people's feelings I don't ever want to do that. So anyways, good talk. Glad we could have this conversation and I'll see ya out there."

Andi and Josh fell deeply in love on The Bachelorette, but they split in 2015.

Andi went on to write a tell-all memoir that bashed Josh and how he had treated her during their short-lived relationship. She had accused him of being verbally abusive, temperamental and controlling in her book -- which Josh called "fiction."

"I was disgusted with myself for what I put up with. I was a strong, independent woman and I allowed [Josh] to be [emotionally abusive]. Now, I know I don't want someone jealous or controlling. I know what won't make me happy in [the future]," Andi told People in 2016.

"We all have red flags in our relationships that we don't see. Looking back and seeing those red flags was very cathartic for me. I realized our relationship wasn't the highlight of my life like I thought it was. So I took it off the pedestal and realized all was not lost."

Josh went on to appear on Bachelor in Paradise's third season in Summer 2016 and ended up proposing marriage to single mom, Amanda Stanton, who later voiced similar unflattering comments about Josh after their December 2016 breakup.

Amanda told E! News in 2017 that Josh had a bad temper and was "extremely controlling." For instance, he allegedly never liked it when she hung out with her girlfriends.

"He's the worst. Everybody warned me," Amanda said at the time.

But in April of that year, Josh fired back during an interview with E! News and demanded that Amanda "stop lying" about him and "stop speaking to the press" about their relationship. Josh also alleged Amanda and her friends were "trying to cyber bully" him.
