The 22-year-old reality star proposed to girlfriend Kendra Caldwell at sister Joy Anna Duggar's wedding to Austin Forsyth on Friday.

"I asked Joy and Austin two weeks ago if they would mind if I proposed to [Kendra] at the wedding," Joseph said in a video on the TLC website. "They were like, 'Oh yeah, we'd love it if you do that.'"

"I think the thing we're looking forward to mostly in this chapter in life is that we're going to be able to minister together in greater avenues and spend more time together," he added.

Joseph hails from a conservative Baptist family that expected him to enter a formal, supervised courtship as a precursor to marriage.

He and Kendra met in church, and announced their courtship in March.

"We are super excited. It's great to not be courting anymore, now we're engaged," the couple told People.

"I'm just so happy and so shocked. There's so many words I want to say, but just shocked," Kendra added.
