Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan is looking to join Dancing with the Stars' upcoming seventeenth-season cast, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Kanaan reportedly said he met with a casting director while at The ESPYs awards show in Los Angeles last month and should know his fate in the reality dancing competition by the end of this week.

If Kanaan was to participate next season, he'd be following in the footsteps of fellow Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, who had won Dancing with the Stars' fifth season with professional partner Julianne Hough in 2007 and then went on to compete in the show's 2012 All-Stars edition with partner Chelsie Hightower. The pair were eliminated during the third week of results.

Kanaan had previously acknowledged he was interested in competing on Dancing with the Stars.

"Yeah, we're in talks," Kanaan told Hollywood Life last month. "Obviously, Helio did such a great job representing the drivers and the Brazilians. Me being a Brazilian, I'm going to have a tough task but I'll try. We'll see. If it's the right time, I'll definitely accept it and go try it."

ABC will formally announce the upcoming Dancing with the Stars cast on September 4 on Good Morning America. The seventeenth season is set to premiere on September 16.
