"After much consideration, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are ending their marriage. They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations," Reed's representative told Us Weekly in a statement.

Reed and McDonald -- who wed in October 2011 after they got engaged in June of that year -- recorded a song in November 2011 together entitled "Now That I Found You" with lyrics written by the Twilight saga star and music by McDonald.

At the time, Reed admitted she wasn't sure whether she'd be interested in further pursuing a music career.

"They will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, 'I'm Not Falling,' releasing in 2014," the representative continued. "They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together."

Reed, 25, expressed how amicable things were between the couple just two days before their break-up announcement.

"We don't have rules, but I think it's just important to focus on what you love. We love just hanging out. He's my best friend in the world and I love him so much," Reed told Us of keeping her romance alive, adding that she's "not currently" focused on having kids.

Reed and McDonald, 29, got engaged just seven weeks after the singer confirmed they were dating to Reality TV World.

McDonald made it to American Idol's Top 8 but then became the first male finalist eliminated from the show's tenth season. He met Reed when Idol's finalists attended the premiere of Reed's The Little Red Riding Hood movie in March 2011.
