The first teaser for Primate, the story of a family, its pet chimpanzee, and a tropical vacation gone horribly wrong, arrived Wednesday ahead of an official trailer.

The minute long-trailer for the horror film, which has been scheduled for release Jan. 6, features audio and transcription of a 911 call from a terrified woman who says something has killed the people that were with her.

Primate, which had its world premiere last month at Fantastic Fest 2025, stars Johnny Sequoyah and Troy Kotsur, and is directed by Johannes Roberts, who has previously helmed 47 Meters Down, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and The Strangers: Prey at Night.

The story follows a daughter who returns home to Hawaii to see her family, which includes their pet chimpanzee, and brings along some friends to enjoy her tropical home.

As she reconnects with her family and her pet, the chimpanzee contracts rabies and the visit goes downhill from there -- as evidenced in the teaser trailer.
