Discovery Channel announced it has renewed Storm Chasers for a fourth season and The Colony for a second season.

Storm Chasers will continue to follow IMAX filmmaker Sean Casey as he attempts to go inside tornadoes to gather never-recorded scientific data and video footage using his self-designed and self-built "Tornado Intercept Vehicle."

Meteorologist Reed Timmer and his team will also return for the show's fourth season with their newly armored "The Dominator" tornado-chase vehicle, as will veteran researcher and storm chaser Tim Samaras.

Storm Chasers' third season aired last fall.

The Colony's second season will isolate a new group of participants for two months and require them to create a sustainable society inside an abandoned warehouse.

The participants will once again be challenged in the context of real-world disasters as they work together to build the necessities of survival and society -- such as a water filtration system, a battery bank for electricity, a solar cooker, a shower system and a greenhouse.

The Colony's first season aired last summer.
