Darrell Ward, one of the stars of History's "Ice Road Truckers" reality series, died Sunday following a small plane crash.

He was 52.

"It's with great sadness to report we have lost our Montana Legend at the young age of 52," reads a press release on Ward's Facebook page.

According to the social media post, Ward had just left the Great American Truck Show in Dallas and was heading back to Missoula, Montana in order to film a pilot for a new documentary series that would revolve around the recovery of wrecked planes.

Along the way, the plane crashed killing both Ward and his co-pilot. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident.

Ward is described as a hard-working family man whose greatest loves included "his kids and grand-kids & trucking."

"'Ice Road Truckers' has been on for 5 year[s] but he's been my dad for 21 and I cherished him! I looked up to him he was my rock," added daughter Terra Ward in a post on her father's Facebook page Monday.

"I called him everyday he taught me everything I know! My Daddy was the best man ever hands down... NO ONE can say they miss him as much as me and my brother hurt for him today!"

Ward currently appears with business partner Lisa Kelly on Season 10 of "Ice Road Truckers" on History which began Aug. 4. He was expected to return for the next season.
