Dancing with the Stars eliminated Anne Heche and her professional partner Keo Motsepe after the 13 remaining couples of Season 29 each took the stage and performed a new dance during Monday night's episode on ABC.

The TV and film actress and Keo landed in the bottom-two couples along with CHEER head coach Monica Aldama and partner Val Chmerkovskiy based on the combination of judges' scores and home-viewer votes cast live as Dancing with the Stars aired in the Eastern and Central time zones on Monday night.

Dancing with the Stars host Tyra Banks initially declared Monica and Val safe and subsequently announced former NFL football player Vernon Davis and partner Peta Murgatroyd had finished in the bottom-two couples with Anne and Keo; however, Tyra said there was an "error in our control room."

"This is the craziness of live TV," Tyra explained, before calling Monica and Val back to the stage to face possible elimination.

"This is live TV. I was reading my cards, but my cards were wrong, so here we go!"

Dancing with the Stars judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli were then able to vote to save one of the bottom-two couples from elimination.

Carrie Ann voted to save Monica and Val and then Derek voted to save Monica and Val. Bruno revealed he would have voted the same way if he had to cast a tiebreaker vote, so Anne and Keo were sent packing.

Prior to Anne and Keo's ouster, each celebrity and professional pairing performed one time -- and Disney Channel actress Skai Jackson and partner Alan Bersten stole the show and topped the leaderboard in first place.

Skai and Alan received 28 out of 30 possible judges' points -- including the first 10 of the season from Carrie Ann -- for their foxtrot performance.

Skai's dance was dedicated to her former Jessie co-star Cameron Boyce, who passed away in July 2019 at age 20 due to complications of epilepsy, and brought Carrie Ann to tears.

"You are a gorgeous ballroom dancer and I'm just really proud of you," Derek added.

Carrie Ann admitted she was "blown away" by the dance, which she called "sheer perfection" as she cried, and Bruno complimented the young performer's poise onstage.

Season 11 The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe and pro partner Artem Chigvintsev finished the night in second place on the judges' leaderboard with 25 points.

Kaitlyn paid tribute to her boyfriend and The Bachelorette alum Jason Tartick through her Viennese waltz with Artem.

Derek said Kaitlyn gets better every week and she looked so elegant, effortless and stunning, but he's hoping to see a dance that will bring out a different side of the reality TV star in the future.

Bruno added that Kaitlyn is able to link her movements with grace.

A whopping five couples tied for third place on the leaderboard with 24 points.

Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean and partner Cheryl Burke danced the cha cha and the rest of the Backstreet Boys virtually danced behind AJ for the "Larger Than Life" routine.

Derek said the dance was "fantastic" but AJ needs to improve his footwork a little bit, and Bruno noted the performance was "a winner." Carrie dubbed AJ "a natural entertainer" but pointed out that his elbows looked a little weak.

Catfish creator and host Nev Schulman and partner Jenna Johnson took the stage with a rumba routine paying tribute to Celine Dion, an artist whom both he and his wife love.

Bruno said the dance was like "a romantic dream set to music" and Nev displayed great frame. Carrie Ann said the competition must keep an eye on Nev going forward, and Derek complimented Nev's in-between movements, although it was a different kind of rumba.

Actress Justina Machado and partner Sasha Farber performed a salsa routine in honor of Justina's grandmother, who migrated from the mountains of Puerto Rico with her three children in the 1950s for a better life for her family and passed away in 2006.

"We were in your house tonight, well done," Carrie Ann gushed.

Derek noted it's wonderful to watch Justina dance because she's so authentic onstage.

Monica and Val impressed with a samba routine after the couple hashed out their issues and Monica asked her partner for more praise and reassurance.

Carrie Ann said the couple had more chemistry and balance onstage after their talk, which made their dancing better and look like fun. Derek also said it was a proper samba with a lot of content in it. Derek called it Monica's best dance yet.

And figure skater and Olympic medalist Johnny Weir and partner Britt Stewart danced a jive to an Elton John song in honor of his mother, his biggest supporter and biggest critic.

Bruno called Johnny "fantastic, sharp and light on [his] feet."

Carrie Ann said the dance was incredible and Johnny's moves flowed and were fantastic. Derek said Johnny opened up with this performance and finally let everyone in.

Eighth place also represented a tie between two couples at 22 points: Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause and partner Gleb Savchenko as well as Vernon and Peta.

Chrishell and Gleb danced the foxtrot after Chrishell revealed she has frozen her eggs and is taking hormone shots to ensure she will be able to have a child later in life after her failed marriage.

Bruno called Chrishell "a foxy lady" but said she lost her footwork at one point. Carrie Ann asked her to pay more attention to her feet, but Derek explained Chrishell appeared comfortable and this was her best dance yet.

Vernon and Peta took the stage with a rumba routine dedicated to Vernon's grandmother, his "rock" and "hero" who raised Vernon and his six siblings as children.

Derek revealed watching Vernon dance brought him so much joy but he needs to watch his arms. Bruno said Vernon exuded charisma and was working his hips, and Carrie Ann added that Vernon took her breath away through his momentum.

And four couples tied for tenth place on the judges' leaderboard with 21 points apiece.

Rapper Nelly and partner Daniella Karagach performed the paso doble, and Derek said he really enjoyed the dance and Bruno pointed out Nelly showed power but needs to refine his artistry. Carrie Ann believed this was Nelly's breakout dance that he needed.

Anne and Keo also took the stage with a 21-point worthy paso doble.

Prior to her dance, Anne recalled her relationship with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres more than 20 years ago and how going public with their romance caused a major stir. Anne revealed that bringing Ellen to the 1997 premiere of her movie Volcano got her uninvited to the afterparty.

"I was in a relationship with Ellen DeGeneres for three-and-a-half years and the stigma attached to that relationship was so bad that I was fired from my multimillion-dollar picture deal and I did not work in a studio picture for 10 years," Anne disclosed.

Derek told Anne that she looked sturdy and more in control with this dance, and Bruno said it was her most focused performance and she looked like a "warrior" in the ballroom. The judges were so impressed Anne has overcome such struggles in her life.

The Real co-host and fashion correspondent Jeannie Mai and partner Brandon Armstrong danced the tango to spite the people betting against her on Dancing with the Stars.

Carrie Ann gushed about how the performance was so good until the end, when there was a little misstep. Derek thought Jeannie's attitude was spot on and Bruno said he loved to see Jeannie's personality.

And finally, actor Jesse Metcalfe and partner Sharna Burgess danced the cha cha, with Jesse channeling his love of classic cars and motorcycles.

"You've got the look, you've got the vibe, you've got the girl, and you've almost got the timing... If you just push a little bit harder, it could be so much better," Bruno explained.

Carrie Ann said she wants to see more ease and better eye contact from Jesse in his dancing.
