Is 13 unlucky? Nielsen SoundScan reports that American Idol 2 runner-up Clay Aiken's debut single "Bridge Over Troubled Water" b/w "This Is The Night" has now spent 13 straight weeks atop the Canadian Singles Sales chart, placing #1 again in the week ended September 7. In addition, the single recorded its 12th week -- and second straight -- atop the U.S. SIngles Sales chart.

The string may end soon, though, as Clay's second RCA single, "Invisible," is due to be released as a promotional single only. Nevertheless, this has been a truly impressive streak, which resulted in a platinum single for Clay in the U.S. and multi-platinum status in Canada.

Meanwhile, Idol winner Ruben Studdard's single, "Flying Without Wings," has moved back into second place on the U.S. Singles Sales chart after six straight weeks at #3, as former #1 "So Yesterday" by Hilary Duff fell back to third in the U.S. -- although Ms. Duff's debut contemporary CD, Metamorphosis, moved into #1 on the U.S. Album Sales chart (and narrowly dropped to #2 on the Canadian Album Sales charts). In Canada, however, Ruben's single dropped from its fourth straight week in fourth last week to seventh this week, which may indicate that the single is finally starting to weaken after its own lengthy run near -- but never reaching -- the top of the charts.
