CBS says it has renewed its U.S. reality competition series "Big Brother" for a 13th season.

The next edition of the show is to debut next summer.

"'Big Brother' is our summer hero," Jennifer Bresnan, executive vice president of alternative programming at CBS Entertainment, said in a statement Wednesday.

"Every year, our producers deliver innovative twists and turns, consistently evolving this proven franchise and engaging one of the most loyal and interactive fan bases on television and online."

The show follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with more than 52 cameras and 95 microphones recording their every move 24 hours a day.

Each week, the house guests vote someone out. The last remaining house guest wins a grand prize of $500,000, CBS said in a synopsis.
