The American Idol fourth-season champ won Favorite Country Artist honors during last night's live broadcast of the 36th Annual People's Choice Awards.

"I have to acknowledge almost falling coming up here. That just shows you how excited I am," Underwood said during her acceptance speech.

"It was obviously a very great 2009 for me and of course that was because of the fans, so thank you guys so much for voting. It's going to be an even better 2010. You guys are awesome."

Underwood was also nominated in the Favorite Female Artist category -- which she had previously won last year and in 2007 -- however this year's award went to Taylor Swift.

American Idol also won Favorite Competition Show honors during last night's broadcast after Dancing with the Stars had previously won the award the last two years, while Dog Whisperer was recognized in the new Favorite Animal Show category.

In addition, new American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres took home Favorite Talk Show honors for her The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle and American Idol eighth-season winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert all received nods in the Favorite Breakout Music Artist category -- however they were defeated by Lady Gaga.

Former American Idol fifth-season finalist Chris Daughtry's band Daughtry received a nod in the Favorite Rock Band category but lost to Paramore, while former third-season finalist Jennifer Hudson was nominated in the Favorite R&B Artist category but lost to Mariah Carey.
