The season's "Mastermind" warned the cast that one player would be eliminated during the Head of Household competition without a chance to play in the Power of Veto or BB Blockbuster. On top of that, the houseguests wouldn't even be voting this person out.
Following an initial win by Ava, she was given the power to pick one houseguest to compete in the "Maniacal Maze" challenge, which tasked a player with moving a ball through a maze within a time limit by rotating a large hamster wheel.
The first contestant, Vince Panaro, had 6.5 minutes to complete the maze. If successful, he would get to choose the next person to compete. With each passing round, the time limit for the next person would be reduced by one minute.
Vince had 6.5 minutes to complete the maze, and then he chose Lauren Domingue, who had 5.5 minutes. Morgan Pope was selected next, and she had 4.4 minutes.
Morgan then chose Rachel, who was given only 3.5 minutes to complete the challenge.
But much to Rachel's dismay, she ran out of time and lost, resulting in her elimination. Rachel's ouster sent shockwaves through the house and upset her allies, including Morgan, Cliffton "Will" Williams and Ashley Hollis.
But Big Brother's Season 27 houseguests weren't the only people angry and disappointed that Rachel had been "sacrificed to The White Locust."

Former Big Brother players rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, and expressed fury over the Big Brother twist that sent a self-declared "Big Brother legend" packing.
Big Brother fans were especially upset because Rachel was playing a great social game and did not appear to be the target this week.

Big Brother 15 winner Andy Herren wrote, "I'm gobsmacked. Rachel came back after 14 years. She was playing the best game she's ever played. She made it to jury without ever touching the block. She was the FRONTRUNNER. Gone... Due to a twist. F*** this awful show."
Andy continued, "I can feel something shifting and my love for the show waning. It is no longer the game I deeply respected and won. It is now a carelessly-crafted joke that values comps over strategy. Breaks my heart."
Big Brother Season 10 winner Dan Gheesling complained in a since-deleted post via X that he loved how Big Brother always gave houseguests "a chance to fight and stay in the game, knowing it's never over until the final vote is cast."
Big Brother comp beast Janelle Pierzina uploaded a screenshot of her canceled Paramount+ subscription to the Big Brother live feeds.

"Not worth watching anymore sorry. #BB27," the Big Brother All Star admitted.
She later added, "[Rachel] came back because she loves and respects the game. The game wasn't broken! Why meddle? So many players this season had three opportunities for safety. HOH, Veto and BlockBuster. Not to mention they get to campaign. Big Brother 27 didn't deserve Rachel. #BB27."

The two-time BB houseguest reportedly explained, "That was what really bothered me because, was she fighting in that house? 100 percent. She's going to fight every moment she was in the house."
Big Brother 25 alum Cory Wurtenberger accused the CBS reality show of getting "worse and worse" every year.
"They had such a good season on their hands and just actively decided to play roulette with it," Cory lamented.
And Big Brother 26 houseguest Leah Peters wrote that the maze twist defeated the entire purpose of the game.

"It wouldn't matter who was eliminated," Leah noted on X. "I would feel the same level of disgust and frustration that I do for my least favorites as I do for Rachel."
