The network has announced Battlebots, which pits two homemade robots against each other in a series of destructive elimination tournaments that will eventually determine one champion, will return next year.

Battlebots' second edition will feature bigger, faster and stronger robots as well as different expert roboticists, garage builders and families. Previous winners will also come back, looking to defend their titles.

"Viewers will see new technologies, more destructive bots, and even the possibility of drones and flying battlebots," according to the network.

The casting process has already begun.

The first season of ABC's Battlebots ranked as the No. 1 series in its time period in total viewers. ABC revived the series for six episodes this past summer after over a decade of the show being off the air. The original Battlebot series ran for five seasons from 2000 to 2002 on Comedy Central.

Battlebots is produced by Whalerock Industries with Lloyd Braun, Chris Cowan, Ed Roski, Greg Munson and Aaron Catling serving as executive producers. Roski and Munson were original franchise creators.
