When asked what his "best mistake" was in life during an interview with The Oprah Magazine for its September issue, 35-year-old Usher replied, "Getting married at 28," according to Us Weekly.

Usher wed his now ex-wife Tameka Foster in 2007 after dating for just over one year. Usher filed for divorce two years later.

"Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced, but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do," Usher reportedly explained.

Usher has had custody of the couple's two sons -- Usher V, 6, and Naviyd, 5 -- since his marriage crumbled although the settlement didn't come without difficulty. According to Us, Foster argued it was Usher's fame and status that played to his advantage in the custody battle.

Usher will not be serving as a coach on The Voice's upcoming seventh season, however, he is expected to return in the future. He had previously alternated seasons with coach Cee Lo Green so both artists could also utilize time in the studio and on tour.

The Grammy winner is reportedly releasing his next album "Everything You Can Imagine" in September.

The Voice's seventh edition is set to premiere on September 22 at 8PM ET/PT on NBC and feature Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, and Pharrell Williams as coaches.
