Survivor viewers, mark your calendars -- in what has become an annual rite of spring, Survivor: Palau will air on Wednesday evenings at 8PM ET/PT on March 16 and March 23.

The annual Wednesday shuffle, caused by CBS Sports' coverage of NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament which actually draws far fewer viewers than CBS's regular preempted Thursday programming lineup, will end after March 23's broadcast, with Survivor returning to its normal Thursday 8PM time period on March 31.

This year's scheduling will set up a showdown between Survivor and ABC's Lost, the freshman hit scripted drama series that ABC has openly acknowledged was inspired by the long-running CBS reality series. Fortunately for viewers however, Lost will be in repeats the next two weeks, sparing viewers from have to choose between the two castaway shows.

CBS's annual Survivor move might also have had an impact on another Survivor-related series -- that of The Contender, the new NBC reality boxing series created by Survivor and The Apprentice producer Mark Burnett. After several scheduling changes, NBC had announced that The Contender would air on Wednesdays at 8PM -- a move that would have forced its second and third regular timeslot period broadcasts to go up against both Lost and Survivor, two Top 10 ratings hits -- before later announcing it was "tweaking" its schedule and the show would instead air regularly on Sunday evenings.
