The guitarist for the British rock band Queen says there was no ominous reason behind their failure to perform on "American Idol" this week.

The rockers helped coach the eight contestants for Tuesday night's competition in which they all sang Queen songs, but the band was not back to perform on Wednesday night's elimination show.

Previously, celebrities such as Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers and Stevie Wonder have all returned and offered a performance on "elimination night."

Queen guitarist Brian May wrote on his Web site that there never was an agreement with the Fox TV show for the band to perform live.

"There was never a plan for us to perform on the 'AI' show," May posted. "We only wanted to do the coaching thing to give as much as we could to the participants ... not go into the TV studio and 'advertise' ourselves."
