Lamar Odom is reportedly finally taking control of his substance abuse issues.

The NBA basketball player and husband of Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Khloe Kardashian has checked himself into rehab for his problems with drugs and alcohol, People reported Wednesday night.

"He realized he needs help," a source told People.

Odom -- who has spent the last couple of weeks at the center of numerous headlines claiming he has a hardcore drug problem which has left his marriage to Kardashian in jeopardy -- was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence last Friday morning.

Odom was allegedly arrested for DUI at 3:54AM by the California Highway Patrol after he was observed driving slow in a "serpentine manner" on the 101 Freeway. After reportedly being taken into custody, Odom was taken to a jail in Van Nuys, CA before he was released on $15,000 bail at 8:33AM, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The 33-year-old former Khloe & Lamar star showed "objective signs of intoxication" and failed the field sobriety tests he was asked him to perform after being stopped on the freeway, People reported.

In addition, Odom also refused to take a chemical test when he arrived at the jail -- which, according to California state law, means he will lose his driver's license for a year regardless of the outcome of his arrest.

Reports that Odom has a serious two-year drug problem that has strained his marriage to Kardashian first surfaced late last month and followed prior reports that he has repeatedly cheated on his wife, leaving her on the verge of filing for divorce.

Kardashian had reportedly previously hid her marriage problems from the rest of the Kardashian clan.  Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, had recently denied divorce rumors on behalf of her daughter but is now reportedly -- along with the rest of the family -- encouraging Kardashian to file for divorce because they believe Odom "can't be saved."

Jenner, believing her daughter is being "too emotional" about the issue, has reportedly already met with divorce attorney Laura Wasser -- who recently handled sister Kim Kardashian's divorce from NBA basketball player Kris Humphries.
