Jon Gosselin claims an enormous dragon tattoo on his back is a symbol of his new life without his ex-wife Kate Gosselin.

"I have planned this tattoo for years now. I wanted something that resembled a rebirth or a change in me," the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 patriarch told RadarOnline in a Monday report, adding he chose a Korean dragon because it symbolizes rebirth and the circle of life.

"The dragon is all encompassing. It has all parts of the zodiac."

Jon endured a six-hour session three weeks ago at Never Say Die Tattoo in Harrisburg, PA before returning to the parlor last week for another eight-hour sitting, according to RadarOnline, which added the ink is still a work in progress.

"This was the perfect timing for me," he told RadarOnline about the tattoo.

Jon and Kate had their divorce finalized in December -- ending their 10-year marriage.

While Kate's rebirth has included a stint on Dancing with the Stars as a tenth-season celebrity participant, Jon has instead opted for the tattoo as well as the hiring of new manager Canaan Rubin.

"This tattoo for Jon marks this turning point in his life, and symbolizes his time of change, and improvement," Rubin told RadarOnline.

In addition, Jon is working with life coach Sylvia Lafair.

"I have just completed Section Two of my Total Leadership Connection program," Jon told RadarOnline.

Jon is currently exploring several job options -- including both television and non-TV opportunities.

"He has been actively exploring ways to better his life, become a better father, boyfriend, ex-husband, friend, business partner, everything," Rubin told RadarOnline.
