Jennifer Lopez has come off a string of failed relationships, with the latest being Casper Smart, and she's finally reached a point in her life when she's going to just concentrate on herself.

"I had to make a commitment to myself to be alone: no flirting. No possibility of anything. No boys in any way, shape or form," the American Idol judge told People.

"I said, 'I'm shutting it down.' I'd never been alone."

Lopez, mom to six-year-old twins Emme and Max and the star of the upcoming movie The Boy Next Door, previously admitted she loves constant companionship and having a stable man in her life.

"I always found my comfort in another person... I was terrified of being alone," said Lopez, who officially became divorced from Marc Anthony in June 2014 after having split from him three years ago.

"Instead of giving myself time to heal and be on my own, I was so afraid to be that I was always like, 'Okay somebody else just come in here and help me forget I'm in so much pain.'"

Lopez, 45, certainly hasn't ruled out the idea of dating someone again, but she's "not rushing into anything in any way, shape or form."

"I'm not looking," the singer insisted, clarifying however that she's "open" to romance.

"I still believe in the fairy tale. The more I work on myself, the more I give myself the opportunity to share a really deep and meaningful relationship that can give me my fairy tale and last forever."

Lopez and Smart, 27, dated for almost three years before calling it quits in June 2014, when rumors swirled Smart had cheated on her.

"Listen, at the end of the day, love is the best thing," Lopez told People. "But what I've discovered is that I can't get that from somebody else. It's the love inside me, for myself, that will help me through."
