Academy Award nominee Jennifer Hudson skipped the pre-Oscar hoopla in Los Angeles to sing at her hometown church in Chicago.

Hudson, the Oscar favorite in the supporting actress category for her performance in "Dreamgirls," sang to a standing-room-only crowd at the Progressive Baptist Church's "An Evening of Praise with Jennifer Hudson," the Chicago Tribune said Tuesday.

"I'm not a partier," the 25-year-old Chicago native said. "I don't drink. I don't do drugs. I'm having a praise party. The purpose of this is to praise God because he did it; I didn't."

The three-hour, multiple-act service Monday culminated when Hudson sang, "For This I Give You Praise," backed by about 50 members of Chicago's Soul Children choir.

The Academy Awards air Sunday night in Los Angeles. Hudson already won a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild award and a British Academy Award for her debut film performance.
