'Idol 3' runner-up Diana DeGarmo lands Broadway 'Hairspray' role

A trio of "American Idol" offspring will be shining on Broadway this spring, it was announced Thursday.

The latest graduate of the Fox TV talent competition to step onto Broadway is Diana DeGarmo, who will join "Hairspray" as Penny Pingelton on Feb. 7, Playbill reported.
DeGarmo, who is nearly 18, will remain in the role of Tracy Turnblad's best friend through May 14.
"Idol" alum Josh Strickland has landed the title role in Disney's new musical, "Tarzan," which opens March 24. In addition to "American Idol," Strickland competed on "Star Search 2004," Playbill said.
Strickland and DeGarmo will join "Idol" castoff Frenchie Davis, who has been with the musical "Rent" for several months in a variety of roles.
