UPI News Service, 06/29/2005

Former "American Idol" contestant Corey Clark has said the citation he received in Sacramento was "a huge misunderstanding."

Clark was issued the citation on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend at the Sheraton Grand Hotel during the weekend, the Sacramento Bee reported Wednesday.

"My dancers, crew, management and I were all involved in a food fight that lasted only a few minutes," Clark said in a statement released through his publicist, Jed Wallace.

"With that said, I would like to apologize to any hotel guests and/or staff that may have been inconvenienced as a result of this situation," the statement said. "I trust that the authorities have a clear understanding of what really occurred and after reviewing the facts will rule accordingly."

Justin Risley, spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department, said Clark's statements were "inconsistent" with what officers were told at the time.
