Jessica Sierra told police the incident was a case of mistaken identity. Sierra said she threw the glass at Wisam Hadad because she thought he was someone who had spit in her face, the St. Petersburg Times reported Saturday.
Hadad, 28, is suing Sierra, the Hyde Park Cafe, where the incident occurred, and its owner, Thomas Ortiz, the newspaper reported. Hadad is concerned about mental and physical damage he suffered from his encounter with Sierra on April 29, his lawyer said.
Sierra grew up in Tampa and finished in 10th place on American Idol in 2005. She has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of cocaine. Sierra said the cocaine found in her purse was not hers.
