"I texted her the second that I heard something about it. I was like, 'Hey dude, what's going on? You okay?' She was like, 'Oh yes. I'm fine.' She said, 'Betrayed by Seacrest,'" the former ninth-season semifinalist told KSTZ-FM's The Big Ken & Colleen in the Morning radio show on Monday.
"She apparently had a moment backstage where she was just missing her kid," Epperly explained to her hometown radio station in Des Moines, IA.
"She just really wanted to see her little boy and sometimes it really gets to her. I think she probably just had a moment and they probably made it to be something that it wasn't. She's fine. She's still in the game, she's just a mom."
Seacrest had confirmed a TMZ report that he stopped Bowersox from quitting the show's ninth season during a conversation they had two weeks ago in a parking lot on Friday.
Bowersox was reportedly contemplating quitting because she missed her family in Ohio.
When she asked Seacrest, "What's the point?" he told her that if she were to remain on American Idol it could lead to a recording contract that would make her a millionaire, TMZ reported, adding several people were on hand to witness the exchange.
"I bet Crystal's just shaking her head," said Epperly when told the way the events reportedly unfolded.
"She's good to go. No matter what, Crystal is gonna be fine whether she takes the whole thing or not. She'll still be the most successful."
