Crystal Harris: Hugh Hefner split was "mutual," his lifestyle an issue

By Elizabeth Kwiatkowski, 06/15/2011

Crystal Harris says her split with former fiance Hugh Hefner was a mutual decision, despite reports that have claimed otherwise.

"It was mutual between Hef and I," Harris told Ryan Seacrest during a Wednesday appearance on his On-Air with Ryan Seacrest syndicated radio show, refuting reports that she called off the couple's Saturday wedding and left Hefner heartbroken.

"We sat down and we talked about it, and we just kind of asked ourselves, 'Why are we doing this?'"

However, Harris appeared to contradict her prior "mutual" stance later in the interview.

"I called it off because I didn't think it was the right thing for me to do," she said.  "Hef's lifestyle isn't the most normal lifestyle and that was another thing where I was kind of like, 'This isn't the lifestyle for me' -- multiple girls around all the time and the Playboy lifestyle -- I don't know. I just wanted to be true to myself and he's fine. He has really close people around him all the time."

The 25-year-old former The Girls Next Door star admitted her decision to split from the 85-year-old Playboy founder and editor-in-chief was not impulsive.

"For awhile... I've been having second thoughts about everything. I haven't really been at peace with myself lately, so I just didn't think it was fair to him," Harris told Seacrest. "It all happened so fast, and they were going to air a [reality show special on Lifetime] on it. It was all happening too fast for me, and I just sat back and thought about it all and if this was what I wanted. It wasn't."

Harris, who was December 2009's Playboy Playmate, explained although Hefner may have been ready to tie the knot with her, he accepted how she felt and graciously agreed to split.

"He understood. We both agreed it just wasn't the best idea to get married. He kind of told me that he was doing it for me because he thought it's what I wanted, and I told him it was all happening so quick. I just feel I owed it to Hef and everyone there to do the right thing and move on," Harris added.

In addition, Harris also denied a TMZ report which suggested the couple -- who have been dating for nearly two-and-a-half years and got engaged over the holidays last December -- got into a big fight over the phone which ultimately led to the cancellation of their wedding just days before the set date.

"There was no fight. There was nothing," she said.
