The Amazing Race 14's premiere will mark the first time CBS has aired fall and spring editions of The Amazing Race in the same season since the show's tenth and eleventh editions aired during the 2006-2007 season.

CBS renewed The Amazing Race for the twelfth season in May 2007 but had announced that for the first time in three years, the show would not air as part of the network's fall schedule and would instead air as midseason programming.

However that fall, CBS ended up debuting The Amazing Race's twelfth season earlier than expected when the network decided to cancel Viva Laughlin, a new musical drama that was airing in the Sundays at 8PM ET/PT time period The Amazing Race had previously aired in, after only a single poorly-rated broadcast.

The Amazing Race 12 delivered solid ratings during its unusual November-to-January broadcast run and ended up finishing No. 26 in the strike-interrupted 2007-2008 season's overall viewership rankings.  However given the show's twelfth edition wasn't originally expected to air until later in the 2007-2008 season, there wasn't enough time for the show's producers to cast, film and produce a thirteenth edition in time for broadcast last spring.

The Amazing Race 14's premiere was announced as part of a 2008-2009 midseason programming announcement in which CBS also announced premiere dates for Survivor's eighteenth edition and Game Show in My Head, a new Ashton Kutcher-produced hidden camera game show.

Survivor's eighteenth edition will premiere on Thursday, February 12 at 8PM ET/PT, while Game Show in My Head -- which will be hosted by former Fear Factor host Joe Rogan -- will debut on Saturday, January 9 at 8PM ET/PT.
