Arie Luyendyk Jr. dropped a bombshell about his past on Monday night's episode of The Bachelor.

During Arie's first one-on-one date with the beautiful Lauren Burnham in Paris, the Bachelor desperately wanted Lauren -- who had been quiet and guarded -- to open up to him over their romantic dinner.

But in order to convince Lauren to be vulnerable and share some personal stories about herself, Arie felt compelled to do the same.

"My most serious relationship was with a woman who had two kids and we lived together. We were together for a few years and she was actually pregnant with my child," Arie revealed.

"What?!" Lauren exclaimed, completely startled over the news.

The 36-year-old pro racing driver from Scottsdale, AZ, previously disclosed that he was dating and living with a single mother for years following his split from former The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard, but no one knew that Arie was close to becoming a father.

"And so, when she got pregnant, I thought to myself, 'Maybe this is meant to be,' you know? But I started to travel for racing, and that was sort of a point of contention," Arie continued, with Lauren listening intently.

Arie went on to explain that his former flame sadly suffered a miscarriage when Arie was away, which prompted the couple's difficult breakup.

"I scaled back a little on racing, but it just so happened to be during the time of year when it's really busy for me. And then she called me when I was out of town, and she said, 'I lost the baby, and when you come home, I won't be here,'" Arie recalled.

Arie wondered at the time if his girlfriend was bluffing out of frustration or resentment, but he quickly discovered that wasn't the case.

"I thought, 'Okay, she's just overreacting because I wasn't there.' But she just -- that was it. That was it for us," Arie noted.

"God, that's terrible," Lauren replied.

"It was terrible," Arie confirmed. "So that definitely hit me hard, and I can understand it's hard to trust somebody. But without trust, it's hard to build anything."

Although Arie had been in this serious relationship and also had brief romances with other women, he insisted before starring on The Bachelor that he hadn't found love with a woman since Emily about five years ago.

On The Bachelor's 22nd season, Arie currently has six women left in the running for his heart in addition to Lauren -- Becca Kufrin, Bekah Martinez, Seinne Fleming, Kendall Long, Jacqueline Trumbull, and Tia Booth.
