'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest officially joins the E! team

"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest has received a $21 million birthday present from E! Entertainment Network.

Seacrest, who turned 31 Christmas Eve, signed a three-year multimillion-dollar contract to host, develop and produce a number of shows for the cable channel. His "Idol" duties at Fox will remain unchanged.

Seacrest jumps right in at E!, executive producing its "Live from the Red Carpet" before the Golden Globes Awards Jan. 16.

He will also be managing editor of "E! News" and take over as its lead anchor in March, produce a number of celebrity interview shows and act as tower host for the red carpet shows, E! said in news release.

In addition to his "Idol" duties, Seacrest will sub for "Larry King Live" on CNN as well as co-host ABC's "Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve," his weekly American Top 40 syndicated radio show and his KIIS-FM "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" morning show.
