'American Idol 4' runner-up Bo Bice punches ex-NFL lineman in bar

UPI News Service, 04/20/2006

Last season's "American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice reportedly took a swing at a former professional football player at a New York club.

O'Brien's Bar & Grill Manager Cormack told Bice was sitting at the bar a few stools down from former New York Giants lineman Glenn Parker, who leaned over asked the singer if he was the popular "American Idol" rocker.

The reportedly tipsy Bice denied being the celebrity and told the 6-foot-5, 300-pound Parker his name was "Kevin."

"Glenn came over to apologize to him and (Bice) had a go at 'im," Cormack said. "Glenn caught him and didn't swing back and I tried to separate them and as I was getting him off Glenn, he caught Glenn on the chin."

The manager said he did not know what set the singer off.

"Glenn's a big man and he never laid a hand on him. I have no idea why (Bice) acted that way, but Glenn could have really hurt him," Cormack said.

A spokesperson for Bice had no comment.
