"The Voice" coach and Maroon 5 singer told USA Today that he wanted to do the movie for the experience rather than the cash.

"I did this movie for no money. I'm very lucky that I'm in that position," he said.

"I want to have good experiences. I don't want to do a bunch of [expletive] that I hate. I want to treat [acting] completely differently because I have the very fortunate luxury of not having to think of this in terms of money."

Levine is estimated to have made $35 million last year between his music career and his role as a coach on NBC's "The Voice."

"Begin Again" hit theaters June 27.
