As you may know, MTV's newest reality TV series, "Surf Girls" premieres this evening. What you probably don't know is that according to a report by Transworld Surf magazine, the editors allege that the decision of the show judge in the "American Idol"-style vote off show apparently IS NOT FINAL and the series judge told them that the program producers overruled his bootee decision on at least one occasion.
According to Transword Surf, after returning from judging the competition, Quiksilver pro Jon Rose was recently in the Transworld Surf offices "pissing himself laughing about how insane the whole fiasco was." Rose claims that the "MTV film crew fought with each other so much, the reality show should have been about the making of this reality show" and at one point the show producers overruled his decision after he opted to vote "some annoying girl off" the program. Given that when the program was originally announced, a Quicksilver representative stated that "the real juice from the show won't come from the action in the water, but from the interactions and conflict amongst the cast," can this be any surprise?
A rigged reality show... say it ain't so!

Variety reports that "Surf Girls," a new weekly, 30-minute reality project that we reported on earlier, will premiere May 12, 2003 at 10:30PM.
The program is a partnership between MTV and surf company Quiksilver's offshoot Roxy and it will follow 15 contestants as they tour surfing locations around the world, train for competitions and compete for a professional sponsorship deal.
Directed at young women, the show will feature girls wearing a lot of Roxy clothes and accessories.

Surfline reports that MTV and the Roxy division of Quick.silver, the California-based sportswear firm, are teaming up to produce a new female surfer reality TV program. The as-yet-untitled project will feature young up-and-coming female surfers and will follow them around the world in search of the perfect wave.
Danielle Beck at Roxy told Surfline that the idea is to get eight or nine talented female surfers, send them to Australia where Quiksilver's top trainers will put them through the paces, and then take them on the road to places like Fiji, Costa Rica and Tahiti for surf sessions and professional contests. In "Real World" fashion, the real juice from the show won't come from the action in the water, but from the interactions and conflict amongst the cast. "We wanted to do the show with girls because they talk a lot more than guys," said Beck. "And when you put them together for an extended time, all the skeletons come out."
Auditions for the new show are being held in California, the East Coast and Hawaii and all female surfers from 18-24 are welcome to attend.
