America's Next Top Model 4 - Episode 6 Summary

'The' By Isabelle Murray
Original Airdate: March 6, 2005

We start with the usual comments on how the competition is hard.  Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease say something new… just once!  Well, something new was indeed said when super-wrestling-dudette (Michelle) is asked about her skin and if she’s happy that it’s clearing up.  Of course she is happy.  No kidding!

They receive Tyra and, as always, it’s very cryptic with mentions of “Are you Bankable?”  They enter this waiting room and in walks a big, impressive, tall, black man.  He tells them that he has contracts for them to sign.  Super-exotic-girl (Tatiana) does the smart thing and starts to ask questions around what those contracts are for and where they are going.  The man says that they just need to sign those contracts and that they don’t have much time.  On voiceover, the girls tell us that those who signed were going to go into the next room but those who did not sign were going to stay in the waiting room.  Since everyone wanted to go into the next room, they all signed.

They walk in the next room and Tyra is welcoming them.  She looks very business-like.  Anyway, she tells them that they have to be very careful with their businesses and that part of being a top model is also being a good businesswoman.  She introduces them to the person without whom she wouldn’t be there, her mom, who used to be her agent for the first 7 years of her career.  She introduces too her lawyer.  And then the man who pressured them into signing the contracts:  her father.  She laughs and says that they didn’t read the contracts otherwise they wouldn’t be there.  She says that her dad probably owns them all now.  She tells them that some of the stipulations of the contract said that this was valid for perpetuity (she explains that it means forever) and that they have to jump up and down 5 times every time the word “model” is said.  She tells them to jump up and down now and they all do.  A somewhat worried super-exotic-girl (Tatiana) asks whether these contracts will be destroyed.  The lawyer informs them that the lign just above their signature said that these contracts are null and void.  They are all relieved.  (And it goes to show how little they read these contracts if they didn’t even read the lign above their signature!)

Tyra advises them to carefully read everything that they sign… and if they are pressured, to listen to their gut instincts because that doesn’t lie.  Also, she asks whether girls had ever been approached by an “agency” provided that they give money in exchange of potential contracts.  One girl said that she was approached and that they asked her to pay like 997$ in fees for her contract.  Another one said that she was approached by an “agency” but they wanted to charge her for like training and stuff.  Tyra said that all real agencies don’t charge you for your contracts.  If someone asks for money, they are not for real.

That evening, the girls need to blow off some steam.  They dress up and go to a fancy Japanese restaurant.  Super-sexy-girl (Brittany) informs us on camera that she doesn’t even need to drink to be a party animal.  Well, she did drink… quite a bit…  Some girls drank but others didn’t feel like getting drunk at all.  Super-sexy-girl even admonishes super-lack-of-confidence-girl (Kahlen; I’m going to rename her super-Meg-Ryan-like-girl) that she should just loosen up with one little drink (all said while super-sexy-girl was obviously really drunk).  At one point, super-sexy-girl starts dancing on the table.  This is a Japanese restaurant!  Ich!  Super-Reese-like-girl (Rebecca), super-Meg-Ryan-like-girl, and Keenyah (I really need to find a nickname for her but nothing pops out!) are ashamed of the girls dancing on the table because it’s disrespectful and it’s not how they think that they should be represented.

In the SUV on the way back to the apartment, super-sexy-girl (Brittany) kind of complained that super-Meg-Ryan-like-girl (Kahlen) should loosen up.  I think that it was on a dare from super-reformed-girl (Tiffany) but, anyway, super-sexy-girl decided to moon cars that were driving by.  Nice!  Way classy!  Note that I don’t have anything against mooning or flashing per se but I think that, as an aspiring model who wants to steer away from the over-the-top sexiness, that was bad.  Heck, if Tyra saw her do it, would she be pleased?  I doubt it.
