TLC has announced Ultimate Cake Off, a new reality competition series that will pit cake artists against one another to see who is the most creative, will premiere Monday, August 31.

Prior to its debut, TLC will air a sneak-peek of the series on Monday, August 3 at 10PM ET/PT.

Each Ultimate Cake Off episode will pit three different cake artists against each other and task them with creating edible masterpieces for various events, including the opening of a new shark exhibit at the Long Beach Aquarium and the Fourth of July Celebration at the Reagan Library.

Given only nine hours, the contestants must make cakes that are at least five feet tall while also competing in two mini-challenges -- a skills test and a taste test.  Whichever contestant wins the mini-challenges has the opportunity to cut 30 minutes off their competitor's prep time.

The contestant's creations will then be judged by that episode's client, as well as New York sugar artist Margaret Braun and Cake Divas Los Angeles bakery owner Leigh Grode.

Each episode's winner will receive $10,000 and the opportunity to have their cakes featured at the marquee event.

Ultimate Cake Off is hosted by chef Michael Schulson, owner of Atlantic City's Izakaya.

TLC ordered Ultimate Cake Off in April when it announced that it planned to introduce 13 new reality series as part of the cable network's 2009-2010 programming slate.

The eight-episode series is produced by Discovery Studios.
