The Golden Bachelor alum Theresa Nist has finally broken her silence on what allegedly happened behind closed doors with Gerry Turner that caused their breakup.

"I'm normally such a calm person and all I want is peace and joy and good things in my life, and I have been so upset. I've been extremely upset... Anything he said about any interaction we've had, I just go, 'That's not how it was!'" Theresa lamented during the November 4 episode of the "Dear Shandy" podcast.

"I never planned on saying anything about what happened between us. So many people asked me, and I would just say, 'You can't really know a person... in four weeks.' And I would leave it at that. It was really a matter of, 'If you don't have anything good to say, just don't say anything.'"

Theresa added that she never wanted to hurt Gerry or "make it bad" for his daughters or future partner by calling him out.

"But now he's written a book and he's said things, and now I can't ignore it. Now I think that I really have no choice but to respond," Theresa noted.

Gerry and Theresa's engagement aired on The Golden Bachelor's Season 1 finale in November 2023, and then they rushed to get married for a live televised wedding special on ABC in early January 2024.

Several months later, Gerry and Theresa announced their split, and their divorce was finalized in June 2024.

Gerry and Theresa's breakup appeared amicable, for the most part, until Gerry wrote a memoir in which he repeatedly slammed Theresa and blamed her for their failed relationship.

After reading alarming excerpts from Gerry's book, Golden Years: What I've Learned From Love, Loss, and Reality TV -- which just hit shelves on November 4 -- Theresa is sharing her truth.

For starters, Theresa couldn't believe that Gerry recently said she should be worried about the content in his memoir, and not the other way around.

"That felt threatening to me. Why would he say something like that?! And for him to say that, I have to say, 'Was he not there? Does he not know the things that he did and that I would have so many things to say?'" Theresa vented.

While Theresa acknowledged that she didn't want to get "down and dirty" into the facts of how Gerry allegedly mistreated or wronged her, she left little to be desired in her podcast interview.

"Overall, Gerry called me names. He criticized me. He put me down. At one point, he said, 'I don't want to hear your opinion. I don't want to hear if you have any other ideas,'" Theresa claimed.

Theresa alleged there were "so many incidents" of Gerry "having a temper" and "getting mad at things" that she did.

Before the couple got married, Theresa said there was "one really bad incident" that occurred.

"I thought it was a display of temper that I couldn't believe. It was something I was trying to do that was kind, but it was misinterpreted," Theresa shared.

Theresa explained how she usually goes to bed just before midnight but Gerry goes to bed around 9PM.

"So there was a day that he had to get up really early, so he was going to bed at 7:30. So I said, 'I'll keep you company and go to bed with you.' We went to bed and I earnestly tried to go to sleep. I couldn't get to sleep. It was 7:30!" Theresa said.

"So I saw that he was sleeping, and I said, 'Good, he's peaceful. I'll get up and try to relax and get tired.' I went on social media, I'm eating my protein bar, and I was up for about an hour and I was about to go to sleep."

Theresa said, all of a sudden, Gerry came "storming out of the bedroom."

She continued, "[He] was calling me a liar. 'You're a liar. You lied to me. You lied... You said you were going to bed, but you didn't mean it.' I said, 'No, Gerry, I really tried to go to sleep. I couldn't, and I was just about to get back to bed.'"

Theresa said "a normal reaction" from someone would've been like, "Oh, you couldn't get to sleep? Okay."

Theresa claimed Gerry called her a liar almost "violently" and "in such a bad temper."

And Gerry allegedly continued to have a hairline trigger after the wedding.

Theresa claimed Gerry actually got "mad" at her the day after they exchanged vows.

"It was really the type of situation where the attention was taken away from him. After we had left my friend's -- [where] I was very embarrassed -- he yelled at me," Theresa recalled.

"I said, 'Oh my god,' and then he said, 'Don't you 'oh my god' me!' And I said, 'Why are you so mad?' And he said, 'That's just who I am. I get really, really happy and I get really, really mad.'"

Theresa claimed she was with Gerry from The Golden Bachelor -- whom viewers got to know -- only half the time.

"And then half the time, I never really knew what he was going to get mad at, why he was going to get mad, and when the next shoe was going to drop," Theresa shared.

"But I would say it seemed to him that it wasn't a big deal... Maybe this is how he's acted his whole life, and so, you know, 'This is the way it is, and you should just deal with it.'"

Theresa went on to admit, "Every time something happened, a little bit of my soul would be chipped away. I would keep it inside, but I would tell my family, 'This doesn't feel like a man who loves me.'"

Theresa apparently felt like Gerry "regretted" choosing her over Leslie Fhima during The Golden Bachelor finale and then "resented" marrying her.

(Gerry did, in fact, write in his memoir how he felt "trapped" into tying the knot with Theresa and they struggled with intimacy).

"And then any little thing that I did that he thought wasn't right, he lashed out at me," Theresa alleged.

"He said I was manipulative. I'm going to give you an example of when he called me 'an East coast snob'... something I never even heard before... it came out of his mouth, and I didn't even know what it meant. It was apparently a disparaging thing."

Theresa shared how she was at Gerry's house in Indiana and he offered her a cold cut.

"Anybody who knows me, knows I don't eat cold cuts. It's the Mediterranean diet. I eat such a healthy diet," she noted.

Theresa said she kindly thanked Gerry for offering her the food but she gently let him know that she doesn't eat cold cuts.

"And he goes, 'Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh.' And he said, 'You just insulted me.' And I said, 'Why did I insult you?' He goes, 'You're an East coast snob,'" Theresa claimed.

"I said, 'No, Gerry, everyone on the East coast eats cold cuts! I'm the only one who doesn't! My husband ate cold cuts all day long.'"

Theresa also laughed about how she doesn't hang out with the richest of people at the fanciest of restaurants, as Gerry alleged in his memoir.

Theresa said it seemed like Gerry "couldn't stand the sight of her" and was "sick and tired" of her shortly after their wedding.

"He would try, and then something would happen that would get him mad, and then he would have an episode, and then he would apologize," Theresa claimed.

Theresa said Gerry's apologies, her positivity, and support from her family are the three things that kept her going in the relationship.

"I'm to blame for not telling him how much these things bothered me," Theresa confessed. "Because to him, it seemed like nothing. But I kept it in and it kept eating away at me."

Theresa said that once she got out of the relationship with Gerry, she never wanted to look back.

The mother and grandmother admitted, "I didn't want to have anything to do with him. I didn't want that negativity in my life."

"I didn't want it, so I said, 'It's done. Let him go off and find someone else.' I wasn't trying to be mean to him... I was very upset, and I didn't want that to be a part of my life."
