The Golden Bachelor alum Gerry Turner has finally revealed the real reason, from his perspective, why he and Theresa Nist got a divorce only three short months after tying the knot.

Several months later, Gerry and Theresa announced that they were getting a divorce, and their divorce was finalized in June 2024.
During the Tuesday, November 4 episode of "The Ben & Ashley I: Almost Famous" podcast, co-host Ashley Iaconetti acknowledged that Gerry from Indiana and Theresa from New Jersey had thrown out multiple excuses in the last six months for why their relationship didn't work out -- including the distance between them.
"We have the, 'We didn't figure out where we wanted to move and we couldn't agree on that,' and then there was the rumor that [Theresa] was weird about your cancer diagnosis," Ashley told Gerry, referring to his slow-growing bone marrow cancer diagnosis in March 2024.
When asked to set the record straight on what exactly ruined their relationship, Gerry explained, "By the time I had told her about [my cancer], there was enough distance between us that she didn't care much."
"So I told her about the diagnosis, and really what bothered me tremendously, over quite a bit of time, is that I never heard back from her to check in," he added.
But Gerry clarified that he and Theresa had already split up once he learned he has cancer.
"My cancer diagnosis, I do not believe was a contributing factor to our splitting up," Gerry confirmed, which is consistent with Theresa's point of view based on comments she's made in recent interviews.
"I also do not believe that the place where we were going to live was a contributing factor. Perhaps the attitude towards that search was, but not that actual element itself."

After The Golden Bachelor wrapped on TV, Gerry and Theresa said they were considering a move to South Carolina.

However, as time passed, Theresa didn't seem to want to quit her finance job in New Jersey, and Gerry appeared content living in his Indiana lake house near family.
"Plain and simple, I'll speak only for myself, we found that we were not compatible," Gerry revealed to Ashley and her co-host Ben Higgins.
Gerry said the former couple's "biggest area of incompatibility" was when, on The Golden Bachelor, Theresa had told him that she'd leave her job if she found the right guy.
"Only to have her then tell me, a short time later, that she wanted to work another year, and as I've shown, I really want to travel and I want to see the world," Gerry explained.
"I want to experience things, and those two things became mutually exclusive. And that was really the nexis, I think, of our problems."
Gerry also claimed that he noticed red flags with Theresa one week after their wedding.
Gerry said he had driven 14 hours from Indiana to New Jersey to visit his new wife, only to feel "like a trespasser" in her "tiny two-bedroom" house.
Gerry claimed that Theresa had made him sleep on her couch for multiple nights in a row, but Theresa disputed that allegation in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

Ashley therefore came to the following conclusion: "It just feels like both of you ended up getting married and you were like, 'Oh man, there is a lack of intimacy here!'"
Gerry agreed, "Yeah, yeah."
Gerry has since moved on with retired Indiana teacher, Lana Sutton.
Gerry announced that he proposed marriage to Lana in early October, about six months after they had begun dating.
Gerry wrote all about the demise of his relationship with Theresa -- and how he's supposedly not the villain -- in his new book, Golden Years: What I've Learned From Love, Loss, and Reality TV, which hit shelves on November 4.
Gerry claimed he felt "trapped" in his relationship with Theresa, whom he alleged went on The Golden Bachelor for the wrong reasons.
Theresa recently said on the "She's All Bach" podcast that Gerry's words really hurt and offended her.
Theresa also repeatedly insisted there was more to the story of her breakup with Gerry but she didn't want to publicly share what happened.
