The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe has explained how Nick Viall's presence on the show came about.

In an extended promo clip for the show's eleventh season that aired at the end of Tuesday night's The Bachelorette broadcast, Bristowe was shown kissing Viall on a date.

Viall had previously competed on Andi Dorfman's tenth edition of The Bachelorette and finished as the heartbroken runner-up behind winner Josh Murray, who proposed to Dorfman in the finale. Viall later blew up Dorfman's spot on After the Final Rose by revealing they had sex in the fantasy suite.

So according to Bristowe, she and Viall were just friends before she began filming the season, Entertainment Tonight reported.

However, Viall decided he wanted more and therefore asked producers if he could join the show to fight for her heart.

"It was a friendship in my mind. I hadn't even thought of a relationship with him. And then I saw him and he booked a one-way ticket, and he left his job and it was for me," Bristowe told ET, justifying why she had spontaneously allowed Viall to compete.

"[I thought if] there was a sliver of a chance that I see somebody that I could spend my life with, I'm going to explore that."
