Sydney took to Instagram on January 25 to announce the big news.

In a video clip, Nathan got down on one knee and popped the question in what appeared to be his native Cape Town, South Africa, where the couple had decided to move.

The pair then kissed and hugged, celebrating this new chapter of their life together.

"My soul forever intertwined with yours @natenelnel," Sydney captioned her post.

In text over the video, Sydney wrote, "No one tells you the feeling you get when the person you love more than anything in this world asks you to spend forever with them."

"It's not about the ring, or the wedding," she added, "it's about the mutual commitment, the spiritual intertwine & excitement for forever as a unit."

Sydney later shared a photo of her engagement ring via Instagram Stories, writing, "3 years ago I got an empty heart tattoo so that one day when I found my person my heart would be filled."

Sydney introduced her boyfriend, a wellness coach and founder of Vitalis Wellness, to the world in August 2025.

Sydney shared via TikTok that she knew Nathan was The One just two months into their romance.

Earlier this month, Sydney revealed that she and Nathan planned to move to Cape Town.

The Rhode Island-native shared at the time, "We are moving to South Africa for three months and we are opening up a Folk Vintage there."

Over footage of Sydney doing her makeup, she wrote, "30, no kids, don't own a house, & moving next week to my favorite place in the world (Cape Town) to open up my second vintage shop."

She continued, "This is your sign to follow that dream no matter how insane it may seem. So excited for this new chapter in #CapeTown."

Sydney was memorably portrayed as a villain on Joey Graziadei's season of The Bachelor, which aired in early 2024.

On The Bachelor's 28th season, Sydney sparked drama when she and Maria Georgas clashed over a comment Maria had made about Madina Alam being one of the oldest bachelorettes in the cast.

Maria's comments were intended to be supportive or comforting, not malicious. But Sydney misunderstood Maria's motive and talked about her behind her back.

Madina then let Joey know about the conflict without dropping Maria's name.

"If I have to describe it, I felt like I was being bullied. 'Tell me who it is. Tell me who it is.' And I kept saying, 'Can we please just move past it? That's not why we're here,'" Madina said.

When Maria found out, she was shocked by Madina's use of the word "bully."

But Sydney chimed in, "I also felt bullied as well."

Maria asked for specific examples, and Sydney simply said that Maria had "talked sh-t" about her friend.

"Sydney, Missy Troublemaker, needs to stop!... You're making things worse. Just stop," Maria announced.

"I don't want to be friends with somebody like that -- a catty person," Sydney clapped back, adding how she felt "attacked" and was going to remove herself from the "negative environment."

Several bachelorettes accused Sydney of "blowing things out of proportion" considering Maria was just an outspoken and opinionated woman.

At a pool party that preceded the third Rose Ceremony of The Bachelor season, Sydney pulled Joey aside for a chat and identified Maria as the "bully" Madina had been referring to.

Sydney also revealed, "She attacked me and I sat there and maintained my composure. She called me embarrassing, weird and dumb. I ended up walking away. I just couldn't be in that hostile environment."

The Bachelor star confronted Maria about those "alarming" accusations, and she insisted that she'd never treat another woman that. Maria broke down into tears because she felt completely misunderstood.

"Sydney, if you like her, there's no way you can like me because we are completely different people," Maria told Joey. "I think Sydney is giving these accusations without any explanation as to why she's feeling that way."

"You're right. I probably should've asked her more questions," Joey replied.

Joey shared in a confessional how the way Maria was talking to him "felt more real" than the way Sydney had been talking to him. The Bachelor star admitted he felt "distraught" because he liked both women, who were apparently total opposites.

Sydney and Maria each received a rose at the Rose Ceremony, but Joey ended up siding with Maria and eliminating Sydney during Episode 4.

After Sydney and Maria's feud aired on ABC, Sydney accused Maria of "gaslighting" her on social media.
