"Teen Mom" star Leah Messer was in such dire financial state earlier this year, the state of West Virginia slammed her and husband Jeremy Calvert with a $10,598 tax lien.

The lien was paid off on May 7.

Messer told RadarOnline.com she was having financial problems in large part due to the copious medical bills for treatment of her daughter's muscular dystrophy.

The reality star revealed earlier this year her daughter Aliannah had the incurable disease.

"The disorder affects her respiratory system and progresses the older she gets," Messer said. "The bigger she gets and the more weight she gains, the harder it'll be for her muscles to carry the weight.

"It's stressful because insurance doesn't cover the whole cost," Messer said. "One bill alone was $20,000."

Messer appeared on Teen Mom 2 in 2011 and is mother to twin girls, Aliannah and Aleeah, and Adalynn.
