"Oh man, I thought that things were going to go my way tonight, but Uli stayed Uli strong, and I'm a casualty of that," Jason said in his final words.
"But I would do it all over again. I was the alternate this season, so every single moment I was out here, I was soaking it in. I felt like I was living on borrowed time, but when it's your time, it's your time. And what a journey it's been for me!"
The Survivor broadcast began at the Hina camp on Night 8 after Matt Williams was voted out.
The new Hina tribe was made up of Jason; Rizo; Jawan Pitts, a 28-year-old video editor from Salem, NJ, who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA; Nate Moore, a 47-year-old film producer from Clovis, CA, who currently resides in Hermosa Beach, CA; Savannah Louie, a 31-year-old former reporter from Walnut Creek, CA, who currently resides in Atlanta, GA; and Sophi Balerdi, a 27-year-old entrepreneur from Miami, FL.
Jason said he was concerned about how his name had been written down. The only people who had received votes at the previous Tribal Council were old Hina members.
But Savannah said she felt really good, her alliance was solid, and she was in the majority.
"I am living the Survivor dream. It does not get better than this right now! We did not start the war. You know who started the war? The old Hina tribe every time they did that, 'Hina, Hina' chant," Savannah explained.
"How are we supposed to work with people who are so tightly bonded? You literally gave us no choice. What else were we supposed to go? So if we go to another Tribal Council, from my point of view, Jason's got to go."
Over at the new Kele tribe, Shannon Fairweather, a 28-year-old wellness specialist from Wakefield, MA, who currently resides in Boston, MA, explained how she was "in self-preservation" mode.
Shannon suddenly came up with the idea to gather two former Hina, two former Kele and two former Uli to work together in an "unexpected" alliance.

In addition to Shannon, the new Kele tribe included Alex Moore, a 27-year-old political communications director from Evanston, IL, who currently resides in Washington, D.C.; Kristina Mills, a 36-year-old MBA career coach from Houston, TX, who currently resides in Edmond, OK; and Michelle "MC" Chukwujekwu, a 29-year-old fitness trainer from Sachse, TX, who currently resides in San Diego, CA.
The tribe was also comprised of Sage Ahrens-Nichols, a 30-year-old clinical social worker from Roxboro, NC, who currently resides in Olympia, WA; Sophie Segreti, a 31-year-old strategy associate from Darnestown, MD, who currently resides in New York City, NY; and Steven Ramm, a 35-year-old rocket scientist from Littleton, CO, who currently resides in Denver, CO.
Shannon hoped to establish a "core six" who could work together to keep their names out of the rotation.
Shannon shared her idea with Steven, who acted like he was totally onboard.
"She is playing so hard," Steven told the cameras, adding how he wasn't expecting someone to talk strategy with him so early in the morning.

Later that morning, Shannon tried to deepen her connections with people while throwing Sage's name out there.
Steven admitted to MC that Shannon's gameplay was alarming and concerning. MC said she admired Shannon's gameplay but that's not someone she wanted to go up against in the future.

On Day 9 at Hina's camp, Jason -- who said Tribal Council had served as "a wake up call" for him -- tried to erase tribal lines in order to break that Hina vs. Uli mentality. Jason worked on establishing personal relationships with other tribemates, including Jawan.
"But right now on this tribe, we are a solid five. And unfortunately with that, that leaves my boy Jason on the bottom," Jawan shared in a confessional.
Jawan, however, was irritating Savannah by using her water bottle among other belongings. She said she was going to take that into account when it became time to vote.
Meanwhile, at Kele's camp, Sage noticed that Shannon was hypnotizing people and she was probably a shark posing as a seal. Alex and Steven spoke to Sage about her concerns, and so their thoughts on Shannon were then out in the open.
Later that day, one member from each tribe was asking to go on a journey.
MC went on the journey for Kele, and Hina drew rocks to figure out who would get on the boat because Jason, Savannah and Nate all wanted to go.
Jawan put two black rocks and one white rock in the bag, but he sneakily put the white rock on top knowing Nate was going to pull out a rock first. Nate therefore won the chance to go on the journey, and Jawan was just happy it wasn't Jason.
Once at a different beach, MC and Nate discovered a note. They were instructed to work together to move sandbags from one location to another before a timer ran out. If they succeeded, they'd both keep their vote at the next Tribal Council. If they failed, they'd both lose their vote.
"I just know it's going to suck!" MC said of attempting the daunting task in the hot sun, before adding, "There must be 100 sandbags. I feel like this may be one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life."
Nate and MC decided to go at a moderate pace, and Nate tried to get to know MC while they worked together by asking her fun, casual questions about herself.
Once many of the sandbags were moved, MC discovered another note on a box that was underneath the sandbags. MC called Nate over, and the pair learned an advantage was hidden nearby under a rock inside the canopy of trees.
"The first to find it, gets it and keeps their vote," the note read. "The other player must finish the sandbags on their own in order to keep their vote. The advantage dies if the timer runs out or if the sandbag task is completed before its found."

Nate proudly stated, "She bought it," acknowledging how he didn't want to find the advantage because he didn't want to put a target on his back. However, he didn't want MC to find it either.

MC wondered if Nate had an ulterior motive, but she was so tired that she decided to just listen to Nate and finish the sandbag task with him so she wouldn't lose her vote. MC was proud of herself that she didn't give up.
Afterward, Sage revealed to MC, Steven and Kristina that Rizo had found a "Beware Advantage" in order to gain trust and favor with them. MC, who had found a "Beware Advantage" herself, knew Sage was telling the truth, and so she decided that they should work together.
Shannon, meanwhile, didn't think that Sage was talking Survivor strategy at all.
"She thinks I'm stupid, but the reality is, I'm a wolf baby, and I'm ready to eat her! And I think I'm getting that opportunity," Sage boasted in a confessional.
Over at the Hina tribe, Savannah said Jawan was listening to her conversations and stressing her out. While Jason was "the easy vote" in her mind, she said Jawan was "extremely hard to work with" and so she was ready to see him go home.
On Day 10, the new Kele and Hina tribes met Survivor host Jeff Probst for the season's next Immunity Challenge. Kele walked into the challenge chanting their tribe name.
For the challenge, Jeff explained each tribe must swim out to a giant bamboo cage, climb up it, jump in, and then carry that giant cage all the way up the beach, where one player from each tribe must dig out from under the cage.
That person was going to be "the rebounder" while the rest of the tribe attempts to shoot balls into very tall baskets. The first tribe to get one ball in each of their three baskets would win immunity and be safe from the vote.
The tribes were also playing for Reward in the form of four chickens, one rooster, and three egg-laying hens. The losing tribe would have to attend Tribal Council and vote out the sixth person from Survivor 49.

After an exhausting challenge in "brutal" heat, according to Jeff, Kele won immunity.
Rizo said the next Tribal Council was going to be "pivotal" because if they decided to vote out Jason, it would be an "all out war with OG Hina."
After the challenge, the Kele tribe hated the idea of killing the cute chickens, but Alex and Steven volunteered to do the dirty work. Alex admitted taking the chicken's life was shocking and really hard to do.
"To all of those people who have made comments about how soft I am, have you killed chickens on Survivor?! I don't think so," Alex told the cameras.
Meanwhile, Sophi said she had no gas left in her tank. She hadn't eaten much, and she attended every single Tribal Council.
Jawan made it his goal to keep Jason comfortable so that he wouldn't play his "Shot in the Dark."
As Savannah had said before, Jason was the obvious vote that night, but she still considered writing Jawan's name down. Savannah worried that whoever was left on the former Hina tribe would view her alliance as enemies at the merge.
Savannah therefore let Jason know that she was willing to work with him. Savannah told Jason that he was essentially the sole thread that connected new Hina with old Hina, and so he pitched that idea to the other tribe members.
"I have to hope that Savannah has my back and that I can live through the night," Jason told the Survivor cameras.
Nate was also open to working with Jason, and so Nate and Savannah talked about writing Jawan's name down. Nate thought keeping Jason would open up the game and stop people from voting based on tribal lines and loyalty.
"If we choose to eat one of our own, I'm also worry that we're going to set ourselves up for failure against the old Hina. This is not going to be a simple numbers vote. This vote tonight could impact the rest of the game," Savannah explained in a confessional.

At Tribal Council on Night 10, after everyone cast their votes, no one played an advantage or hidden Immunity Idol.
Jeff then read the votes aloud in the following order: Rizo, Jason, Jason, Jason, and Jason.
When Jeff snuffed Jason's torch, Jason seemed grateful and said he received 10 days more on Survivor than he thought he'd have.
